III-1 OVERVIEW AND PHILOSOPHY

Grant Thornton is committed to hiring, training and fostering the continuous growth and development of well-rounded professional accountants and business advisors. Everyone from the newest recruit to the most senior partner is constantly learning.

Training at Grant Thornton is more than being lectured to in a classroom, it involves three basic elements:

1. High quality professional development programs planned, developed and administered by our National Professional Development Department;

2. Continuously challenging work experiences and on the job learning opportunities; and

3. A supportive, down-to-earth atmosphere where personal growth and career success are encouraged. We believe in coaching and mentoring our staff! We believe this support along with a keen sense of personal determination will provide you with the foundation necessary to complete your own formal development, and assist you in selecting a long term career path that is right for you!

III-2 LOCAL OFFICE SUPPORT

Your success on the uniform examination is important to our firm and to the office in which you work. We want you to become a CA, and we will prove that through the support we will give you as you work toward your CA designation.

The CA's in the Alberta Business Unit are available to assist students in a number of ways. Our CA's have marked and critiqued sample exams and provided advice on how to write exams. Several of our CA's have actually participated in UE marking and have taught Institute courses. This has proven to be a valuable resource for our CA students. As well, each office has a CASB facilitator to provide additional support and act as a liaison between the students and the CASB office. Our CASB facilitators are recent graduates of the program, who have a personal understanding of what you are going through and what issues are important students. We also provide periodic "technical sessions" focusing on particular aspects of your job, such as computer application and tax return preparation.
